We always talked about adopting a pet but now I’m realizing (aside from the fact that my allergies to anything furry ruins these plans) that our backyard wildlife is much more diverse and interesting. Who wants a cat or a dog when you can have the skunk that rifles through our shrubs every evening? Or the pair of falcons that recently took residence up in our enormous ficus tree and pooped all over the yard? Yesterday, we had a surprise visitor: a coyote!
I grew up in the Hills, so seeing deer, rabbits and coyotes isn’t never that surprising but when you’ve got a back area closed off on all sides with chain link fences, seeing a big shaggy dog-like animal hanging out is pretty crazy. The heat was pretty intense yesterday so I’m sure all of our shade seemed pretty inviting to it. We spent much of the afternoon watching the coyote wander around and snooze in various parts of the yard. One time, it saw me through the window and we had a staring contest for about 5 minutes (I won). By the time the sun set, we could hear it rustling around and by this morning, it was gone. Sad face.
What an incredibly boring story.
In other news, remember when I blogged about buying six refill packs of my favorite Mrs. Meyers hand soap? And I stupidly claimed it was going to last me a year? Guess what? I’m officially halfway through the last bottle. That took OVER TWO YEARS TO USE UP. And our hands smelled delicious. I might have to try the Lemon Verbena scent next. See you in 2014!
Also, Moye, no one cares.
