Everyone went crazy over the big rainbow that appeared over Los Angeles last week, but I liked the one I found in Glendale over the weekend. It was a good luck sign because then I went into J. Crew and found exactly what I wanted to buy, in my size AND on sale. Like, totally awesome.

Fresh Start!

I’ve been delinquent in writing. I did feel bad but only because I resolved at the beginning of this year to post something every day (weekends not included) but sometimes it’s okay to take a break, right?

I was going to write all sorts of wedding recap posts with pictures that I took, but that just grossed me out. Like, seriously, who cares?

Here’s the morning view from our new apartment. The curtain rods haven’t been put up yet, which mean that we woke up to a lovely, SUPER DUPER BRIGHT sunrise with a hazy Downtown in the background. It also doesn’t help that I decided to get the walls painted a pale yellow, so it’s basically like waking up in a bright lightbox. Nice.

Anyway, here’s to a fresh new beginning!

(I’m not quite sure what’s beginning or why we even need one but who cares.)

Monkey Muffin

Miniature monkey bread from Bottega Louie. This is the best monkey bread I’ve ever eaten. It may not be saying much since I’ve only eaten monkey bread once before and it was one that I made out of Pillsbury biscuit dough which made it pretty disgusting, but this one was made out of flaky croissant bits. Yum yum yum.

Apparently my fairy godmother was listening, because my delicious Nom Nom Truck wish came true today. The truck showed up across the street from the office today but even though they had to shut down due to a technical kitchen problem thing, they still gave my friend and I free iced coffee (yum!) and a sandwich to split just because we were so awesome! Or maybe the guy saw the sad desperation in my tear-filled eyes when he told us about the truck being closed.

It was also a really crazy moment because we were half trying to figure out why the truck was closed, talking to one of the owners (who was super nice!!!), telling other people who had come by that the truck was closed AND seeing if this old lady who had collapsed near us was okay. Yes. An old lady fell on her face right then, and all I could think of was how to get my hands on a banh mi. I am awful, but I comfort myself with the fact that I think she was being way too over dramatic, because though she was all shaky and frail when this nice man helped her up, she walked away fine as if nothing happened.

I love Nom Nom. The sandwich was perfect and certainly beat Mr. Lee’s with the fact that they actually filled the baguette up with meat from end to end. I think I had the grilled pork sandwich (sorry, I ate it too fast to look at everything closely) but the flavor of the meat was nicely complimentary with the vegetables and cilantro. More, please. :)

Last week I came across CSA California online, which offered a weekly veggie & fruit pick-up right down the street from work, so of course we jumped at the offer. I tried to find a convenient one last year, but pick-ups were either all the way in Riverside during the week or seemed really expensive at the time.

So look at what we got!!! Romaine lettuce, broccoli, asparagus, kale, sweet corn, parsley, onion, garlic, peppers and some of the yummiest peaches/pluots we’ve ever eaten. I already ate one corn with lots of butter and salt, but I can’t wait to figure out what to cook for dinner this week. Any ideas?

The cost was pretty comparable to other CSA groups at $25/week but nothing beats avoiding the hipster crowds at the local Farmer’s Market and knowing that you’re supporting one local farmer somewhere out there pulling out weeds with his bare hands.

Today was super exciting because not only did I get a really creepy comment and a coworker tried to freak me out over IM, but the Marked 5 food truck came to our office so we got to feast on delicious pork katsu burgers sandwiched between grilled sticky rice cakes. It’s like almost all of my favorite foods wrapped together: white rice, tonkatsu, delicious tonkatsu sauce and more rice. Imagine a fried egg on top, too!

YUM YUM YUM.

You know what’s even better? The Kogi Truck was scheduled to come at the same time, but took forever to show up (if they even did come) so the group of lunch-goers were split between ordering/eating the  food at Marked 5 and sitting in the heat for an invisible Korean BBQ truck. Actually, I even heard that the Kogi fans ordered and ate the Marked 5 burgers while still waiting in line for Kogi. Lame.

Sorry that the photo quality sucks so much. I only have a second generation iPod but feel free to send me a 3GS if it bothers you so much.

Is there any way we could book this truck to stop by the restaurant after our wedding party? Hmmm….

bloggerprom

Okay, so I’m a little late on this, but at least I’m posting about it. Lisa and I attended the first (annual?) Blogger Prom thrown by some of the best cele-blog-rities in Los Angeles. And yes, I mean best because everyone pretty much knows who they are, they probably get a bajillion hits and comments on their sites every day and I’m honored that they were nice enough to send me an invite. And who else to bring with me than an even bigger blogger than me but Lisa!

We did some last minute shopping (complete with emailed photos to each other at malls across the city), dressed up and walked over to the Andaz Hotel to see what was going on. Mostly, though, I just reverted to my wallflower self, ate all the food, tried a drink, hung out with Joz and her hot date, caught up with Chris, and just thanked my intuition to NOT buy the hot pink dress I had tried on at Forever 21 earlier that day. No, seriously, I was. Since the single-sex rule at my high school made prom just a night of hanging out with friends (complete with finishing off two bottles of white wine with my “date”), this was the first time I had to think about the possible and horrible consequences of wearing the same dress as another girl. Fortunately, I won because the first thing Lisa and I saw in the room were not one, not two, not three but FIVE (maybe six) different girls wearing the same exact hot pink dress from Forever 21 that I had showed her earlier that day. Phew. Luckily, I went with the ugly pale pink floral bustier dress instead. No one copied me! Wait, maybe that’s not always a good thing.

The night was loads of fun and the goodie bag was even better, but I’d have to say that the best moment was seeing our blurry selves (Joz included) in the main photo from the LA Weekly blog. Woo-hoo! I’m famous!

(And this isn’t the first time I’ve been caught in the background.)

Highlight of the night? Lisa looking at Pauly Shore and saying he looked like a nice person without realizing that she was talking about Pauly Shore.

Today was great because an old fashioned ice cream truck was parked outside the office building, which meant I got to have the best dessert ever.

This was my chocolate dipped ice cream, which I unfortunately couldn’t finish because I’m lame like that. I also cut my gum on the chocolate when I bit into it, which meant meant it got a little bloody. At first I freaked out and thought the ice cream man bled into my cone but that would have been CRAZY, right? I still ate that bloody part though.

Anyway, now that I’ve grossed you all out…

As cool as Freecycle is, it’s gotten to the point where I just automatically delete the daily emails, because I don’t really need anything, I don’t have anything free to give away and reading them fills me with such rage over the entitlement of some of our fellow city dwellers.

Sometimes, though, I take a peek at them…and find myself filling with rage yet again. Here’s what came in today:

WANTED – iPod Touch (xxxx)
need this not for fun but for work – so, it’s URGENT..
if you have one you do not need/use – PLEASE let me know…
thanks in advance.

Someone please tell me what kind of job absolutely requires an iPod Touch. Either this employer is completely clueless on what the iPod Touch is, or there really is a job out there that requires you to download apps, play games, listen to music, check your email and surf the Internet (but only if you have access to a WiFi connection).

I think these iPods are stupid to begin with (I still don’t understand the purpose of having one, unless you like browsing the web on a tiny device only where you have Wi-Fi) but a job that requires one? PLEASE.

WANTED: Any Wii Accessories (xxxxx)
Looking for any unwanted wii accessories such as extra controllers, guitar hero guitars/mics/ drums, mario kart wheels, etc.

No. Sure, our Wii is gathering dust (but only because I need to replace the batteries on my Fit board and I’m too scared to see what happens when I finally step on it), but there is no way in hell you’re getting our remotes for free.

Wanted: iPhone or iPod Touch (xxxx)
I’m looking for a working used iPhone or iPod Touch. I’m in Downtown LA but can arrange to meet anywhere within reason in a public space like Starbucks.

I’m guessing some people will be tossing their old iPhone into the old junk drawer. Would much appreciate if you would consider giving me your hand-me-down.

Thanks!

Okay. I kind of understand the thought process behind this one. New, improved and cooler iPhone 3GS comes out, which means current iPhone owners will upgrade in a hurry, abandoning their old phones to rot in some dark, empty drawer.

Except that most iPhone users will have to fork over $4oo to $500 to get the 3GS, while their current phone works better than ever with the new 3.0 firmware and still sells for almost $100.  So why the hell would someone give away their iPhone for free? WHY?

Cravings…

Do you see this? This is what makes my mouth water right now. Thinly sliced sweet potato chips with a yogurt, tamarind and star anise dip that was so light and fluffy, it was a shame that the menu relegated this bowl of clouds to the heavy “dip” category.

Argh, my tummy is grumbling but there is absolutely nothing in the kitchen that could taste remotely close to this.
