Lazy Monday Photos

I used to take a film photography class in high school, right before it all went digital (it = non professional photographers and all went = became cheap enough for amateurs to try it out) so I still have my hands on an old Nikon SLR that looks like it was straight from the ugly late 90′s. Oh wait, it was. We still go out and try to shoot photographs around town but the problem with film in the digital age (wow, do I sound like a douche or what when I say that?) is that I’m ten times lazier so actually getting the roll processed takes about two years. Yeah, I said it. TWO YEARS.

Here are photos that I took around downtown Los Angeles almost two summers ago. What a summer. Remember that time before Twitter and food trucks and hoover boards?

Bombfire

bombfire

At first I thought maybe it was a joke, but nope. This guy has several photo albums of various objects, like “cemetery” and “trains” but this one (of a bonfire) was titled “bomb fire.” I can’t stop laughing.

Now we’re deciding whether or not to tell him.

I was super excited to try this tilt-shift maker site but it doesn’t seem to work on my photos very well. Then again, I rarely find myself at soaring heights to take panoramic view photos, which I think works best for this kind of stuff.

Oh wells. Maybe when I finally buy that private helicopter.

Fall Back

I think having an outdoor potluck on a cool evening in Echo Park is the perfect way to end the summer…and start the fall. Especially with miniature firecrackers.

Snap Fish

Sometimes I see a lot of horrible photography where people take macro shots of flower petals and stroke their own ego on how amazingly talented they are. And then there are those photographers who have no clue what contrast or white balance is.

And then there are friends who are lucky enough to travel the world and also pick up photography as a latent hobby with a fancy camera, and uploading pictures from their travel every once in a while, so you can check on their progress and writhe in jealousy as you sit in your office cubicle.

I have one friend like that, and each time he puts up more photos from random spots around the world (in this case, Tokyo), I just have to calm myself so I don’t jump out the window. Or something like that.

I’m not a very good writer when it comes to art, but honestly, there’s something about Ken’s photos that make me really happy. I think he has a really good eye in capturing moments that somehow bend reality but without making the scene look impossible or crazy or weird. I can’t explain it.

Plus, anyone who appreciates some solidly yummy ramen and takes photos of it wins a star sticker in my book.

Yes, I do have a book. Filled with star stickers.

It’s just in my head.

More super duper cool pictures over here. I wish I had seen these photographs earlier because they make me feel good.

QUICK!

Youngme/Nowme.

Where is my sister? I need to do this asap. Anyone else want to join me? My weekend plans are now set. Except that my sister is all the way across the country from me. Dammit.

How about these photos?

Ahh!

companion-cube_portal_bloor_wide_021.jpg

Ahh! Portal is REAL!

A companion cube has been found in Toronto (via DDOI). Things like this warm my heart, because it’s nice to know there are nerds all around us. Plus, I’ve gotten that stupid cube stuck so many times in portals that it’s really ridiculous.
