Viva Pops

My boss is right. The long MLK weekend is a true blessing: life sucks so much after January 1st, because holidays are over and you’re forced to return to the usual 9-to-5 grind. Then this lovely 3-day weekend comes up to give you a little break, like a sweet reminder that hey, maybe the next round of holidays isn’t too far off.  Here’s something to savor until Memorial Day weekend rolls around!

We ventured down South for the long weekend to celebrate an old friend getting hitched (despite her claiming multiple times throughout college that she was never going to get married), catching up with college friends and enjoying gourmet popsicles.

Listen. I KNOW. I said I wouldn’t take any food pictures as part of my 2010 resolutions but I thought it would be good to clarify what I exactly meant: no more taking food pictures in restaurants for the sake of documenting whatever food you’re eating. It’s different if you’re documenting the food that you’ve created out of your own blood, sweat and tears, or you’re just having fun with your sister because she’s eating a delicious frozen blood orange pop.

So there. My resolutions are still on.

DONE!

We did it! Finally. It’s all over. I never want to do this again. I can’t wait to see how the professional photos turn out, but I’ve resigned myself to the fact that I will look very doughy in all of them, mostly because I let myself go about 2 months ago.

(This is us after our dinner party, super pooped out but still managing to have lots of silly fun with the camera’s self timer.)

DIY Lame

There are very few things that I am actually DIY-ing for this upcoming shindig but when I finalized our order for the yummy delicious cake, I realized I actually had to put something on it (because I also didn’t feel like decorating the cake with fresh flowers. I’m eating this whole cake, dammit. I don’t want to find a blossom in my mouth). So I thought I could use these two ceramic figurines that I (for some reason when I was small) thought were the most beautiful things ever and bought them in some store in Montreal. I think? I don’t really remember. I know I was in some foreign country and I was determined to add something to my growing porcelain collection (which I still have in my parent’s house). I do, however, remember staging little weddings with these kitties and the rest of my collection.

Yeah, I get it. They’re kinda creepy. They’re cats getting married. WTF? Cats don’t stand upright and they don’t get married. I don’t even really care about cats. They make me sneezy. Brandon doesn’t really do cats either. He named his family cat “Melonhead” for chrissakes.

But who cares. I painted and glued this thing together and you’re all going to enjoy it.

(OMG I just realized this makes us look like furries. Wah.)

11 Days!

hello_kitty_flowers_2.jpe

11 more days! Can you believe that? Everything is pretty much done, but now I’m kicking myself for not finding these Hello Kitty carnations before putting in our final flower order. How awesome would it be if I had these everywhere?

Add this to my very long list of life regrets.

19 Days!

19 days to go! How crazy is that? I feel like most girls go really crazy at this stage with extreme dieting, stress binging, tears from time-consuming DIY craft projects and lots of second thoughts. Me? I’m more excited about trying ODST on Legendary mode and watching more episodes of Lost.

Okay, I’m not saying that I’m not excited but I just haven’t really found anything to stress out about. I also am realizing how my personal social world is so distanced from the wedding world. While most girls constantly update their registry and crap like that (at least, from what I read online), my friends can’t even remember where we’re registered or what date this whole shindig is going down.

Anyway, I still like to pretend to be those annoying STFU Marrieds by asking B the following:

  • When are we going to combine our email addresses?
  • When are we going to combine our Facebook accounts?
  • How come you never write on my Facebook wall?
  • Did my lawyer call you yet about the pre-nup?
  • What’s the first thing you’re going to do after we get married? What’s the second thing?
  • What are you going to give me for the wedding?
  • How big should my next ring be?
  • When I should change my name?
  • Would you still love me if I got fat[ter]?

PS. Those are our favors. I really want to keep them all so we’d have enough soap to last our entire lives.

The Cake Topper

squirreltopper

There are always stupid details about weddings and party planning that I keep forgetting. You know, things like if I’m going to need a sweater or not, how many people can you bring to the courthouse or even something for the cake.

I mean, we have a cake and it’s going to be fabulous (and fabulously simple) but it only crossed my mind the other day that maybe we need something on top of it? I didn’t even include this in the budget for our flowers. I’m not even sure what the flowers are going to look like.

So maybe I’ll just order this one I found on Etsy. I mean, it’s perfect, right? Could our relationship be summed up in any other way? Or maybe we can just save the $40 and spend it on something else

I Will Go!

This is the best surprise found on a returned RSVP card yet. Thanks, Ted. :)

RSVP Time

So invitations went out a couple weeks ago, and RSVP cards have slowly been trickling in. Glad to know that friends and family are making full use of the free postage stamp I gave them. And the rest of y’all? Come on, now!

I think one guest got kind of carried away with our impending nuptials. Hmmm…

Sorry, guys, but sometimes I feel like a girl and have to post about girly things, like wedding stuff for our non-wedding.

Last weekend, my sister and I went dress shopping, which turned out to be easier than I thought, mostly because I knew my favorite designer, had already picked out which exact dresses I wanted to try on and my salesgirl had the same taste as me, so it was all good. ALL GOOD. See? Doing tons of Internet research always pays off.

This means I have my dress!!!! (And it’s none of the above, though I tried them all one. The one on the bottom right weighed like 50 lbs.) I was also hesitant to put down so much money for a single dress, but you know what? This is going to be the best time of my life EVER, and all the cheaper dresses didn’t feel very special, AND I get to wear this twice. I may even wear it to all future weddings (and funerals) just to get more use out of it.

Now I just have to stop eating cheeseburgers every weekend so I can still fit into the dress when it comes in September.
